The Met Office has issued weather warnings for this weekend as the recent winter conditions continue – including for showery rain and sleet starting across Friday night and Saturday morning, and for icy conditions on Sunday.
The current weather warnings include:
- A Yellow warning for showery rain and sleet, with snow over some hills, leading to a risk of ice (9pm on Friday, December 16, to 10.30am on Saturday, December 17).
- A Yellow warning for snow and rain falling on frozen surfaces, leading to ice (3am to 2pm on Sunday, December 18).
The weather conditions will be closely monitored and the Council’s Highways and Streetcare crews will be treating the main County Borough network, high routes and car parks in preparation for the inclement weather.
Crews have also checked Grit Bin supplies in advance at locations across the County Borough and restocked if needed. Additional staff resources are also available to take proactive actions and respond to any issues, should they arise.
The Council is advising residents to remain alert and to take extra care at this time. Also, please follow the Met Office and the Council’s social media accounts for all the latest updates.
If you have any issues outside of normal office hours, please call the Council’s Emergency Out Of Hours number 01443 425011.
Please also note, a decision has been made to cancel all sports matches/training on grass pitches this weekend (December 17-18). This decision was made because the majority of grounds are still frozen from the cold weather this week and are not considered safe to play on. Consideration was also given to the upcoming weather warnings for this weekend.
