Storm Eunice Recovery

Following Storm Eunice and the severe weather warnings, the Council is currently dealing with any issues which arose across Rhondda Cynon Taf during the severe weather conditions.

We have staff working over the weekend ensuring the County Borough is once again safe for our residents. As a result:

  • All non-essential Council services will resume
  • All kerbside collections will resume Monday 21 February with a revised timetable
  • All Community Recycling Centres will re-open
  • All day centres and community buildings will re-open from Monday 21 February
  • All leisure centres will re-open
  • All libraries will re-open from Monday 21 February
  • All public toilets will re-open
  • All parks will re-open (subject to any safety concerns)
  • All mountain roads will re-open Friday evening (7pm)

A Met Office Yellow weather warning for high winds will be in effect on Saturday, February 19, from 6am until 6pm. If you have any issues, please call the Council’s Emergency Out Of Hours number 01443 425011.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, said: “I would like to thank the residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf, and local businesses, for their patience and understanding at this time. I would also like to thank our Council staff who responded to the emergency situation.

“Storm Eunice brought some of the most severe winds of the past 30 years to our County Borough, with the highest wind speed of 83.7mph recorded on the Bwlch mountain road. Public safety is always paramount to us, and the Council took the early decision to suspend all non-essential services.

“Although a Yellow weather warning is in place over the weekend for more high winds, we are not expecting anything like Storm Eunice. But I urge the public to remain vigilant at this time.”
