Councillor Appointed As Chair Of Fire Authority

Rhondda Cynon Taf Councillor Steven Bradwick has been appointed as Chairperson of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority and says he is looking forward to his new role.

Councillor Bradwick, the elected member for Aberdare East with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council since 2008, has been deputy chairperson of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority for the past 10 years. He is the first Rhondda Cynon Taf councillor to hold the post of Chairperson.

Councillor Steven Bradwick said: “I am delighted to be appointed as Chairperson of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, having served as Deputy Chairperson for the past decade. It is a role and responsibility I take very seriously and would like to thank the Authority for putting their trust in me.

“I will serve Rhondda Cynon Taf and all other local authorities that make up the South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority as well as continuing my work with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.”

Since April 1996, South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority has been responsible for providing support to the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority consists of 24 members, representing the 10 local authority areas it serves.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Councillor Aurfron Roberts (Gilfach Goch) has been appointed as Chairperson of the HR and Equalities Committee. Also serving as members of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, representing Rhondda Cynon Taf, are Councillor Glynne Holmes (Llantrisant and Talbot Green) and Councillor Dawn Parkin (Tonyrefail West).

Councillor Steven Bradwick also serves on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Licensing Committee, Armed Forces Working Group, Capita Glamorgan Joint Committee, Community Services Scrutiny Committee. He is also Chair of the Governing Body at Aberdare Community School and a member of the Governing Body at Caradog Primary School, Aberdare.
