Due to public demand, The National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, has confirmed it will offer four weekend cold water swims for Autumn/Winter 2022.
The announcement is great news for those loyal customers and Lido fans who have asked for the Lido to remain open after the end of its main 2022 season – even if that means swimming in colder waters!
Winter sessions will also appeal to a different kind of swimmer at Lido Ponty, especially those who are already – or are considering – dipping their toes into the increasingly-popular cold water swimming movement.
Triathletes and those who compete in Iron Man competitions will also benefit from the chance to train for as long - or as little – as they like in the open access sessions.
Of course, all those aged 16 and over are welcome to join Lido Ponty during the Winter swimming sessions but there are important terms and conditions of entry which can be read here.
Swimmers are reassured that all sessions will be supervised by the expert and friendly Lido Ponty lifeguard team and the heated indoor showers and changing rooms will be open. (The outdoor changing booths and showers can also be used by the brave!)
Swims will be in the main and activity pools and the temperature in both will be maintained at 15 degrees. Sessions will cost £2 per person.
Winter swimming sessions will run for an initial period of four weeks, from October 29.
Sessions will be 8am-9am, 9.15am – 10.15am and 10.30am-11.30am on Saturdays and Sundays. Swimmers can book their space on the session and stay for as long as they like.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure said: “It’s been another record-breaking year for the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty. We have welcomed more than 112,000 people for early morning swims and family fun sessions throughout the main 2022 season – more than any other year to date.
“We know it is always a disappointment when the main season comes to an end, but we look forward to welcoming every back for more of the same Lido Ponty fun in 2023. In the meantime, we look forward to trialling the Winter swim timetable and getting ready for Boxing Day and New Year’s Day swims.”
Book tickets for the Winter swims from 9am on Monday, October 24, 2022 here.
Tickets for Boxing Day Swim and New Year’s Day swim are set to go on sale in December.
