We want to get everyone talking about trees, which is why we are asking for your views on our new draft Tree and Woodland Strategyfor 2022/32. Our goal is to protect our trees and woodland for future generations to enjoy and help our planet.
We are fortunate in Rhondda Cynon Taf to be surrounded by natural beauty. We are especially lucky to have an abundance and variety of trees, which is why we are launching an eight-week public consultation.
Wherever you look, you will find trees – in our towns and villages, on our hillsides, in our streets, along our footpaths and within our countless green spaces.
Draft Tree And Woodland Strategy
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment & Leisure, said:
“Our County Borough is known around the world for its valleys and natural beauty. We are regularly used as locations for television dramas, documentaries and movies.
“We have all this on our doorstep and cannot take it for granted any longer. We must all do all that we can to protect our woodland as the Council strives to become Carbon Neutral by 2030.
“We are investing in our green spaces and delivering natural carbon storage solutions such as those provided by trees, peat bogs, marshy grassland and other natural habitats. These will improve air quality and reduce the impact of greenhouse gasses.
“Reducing the impact of Climate Change is something that we can all do, no matter how big or how small. Change begins right here, right now, with all of us.
“Every change we make today will make a difference to our planet tomorrow. We need your help to achieve our goals. We owe it to future generations.”
We have invested £50,000 in tree planting across the County Borough, planting over 1,000 trees. Trees are vital to our survival, releasing oxygen that we all need to live our lives. Trees also store carbon, stabilise the soil and are a habitat for wildlife.
Tree Planting RCT
Our Tree and Woodland Strategy covers the next 10 years with an eye on the longer-term of 50 plus years. To get people talking, we are launching our eight-week consultation from September 1 until October 27.
Tackling Climate Change RCT
We aim to be a Carbon Neutral Council by 2030. We have made good progress over the ten years to reduce our carbon footprint. We have over 100 solar panel installations and installed energy-efficient power systems that generate heat and electricity from the same energy source. We have also installed high-efficiency boilers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units and switched to low-energy LED lighting in buildings and streetlighting.
