The third phase of repairs to drainage infrastructure in Mountain Ash will start next week, focusing on High Street and Cliff Street.
The scheme, funded by the Council and Welsh Government, will start from Monday, August 11.
Upcoming works will replace a section of twin pipes on the junction between Cliff Street and High Street, installing a larger singular pipe to improve the network’s capacity. Pipe re-lining will also take place at High Street.
During the works, Cliff Street will close from its junction with High Street, for around five days, between 8am and 5pm. This is shown on the following map.
An alternative route for motorists, from the western side of the closure, is via Eva Street, Beadon Street, Quarry Cottages, Quarry Road and High Street. From the opposite side, proceed via Graig Street, Woodland Street, Quarry Cottages, Beadon Street, Eva Street and Cliff Street.
Please note that temporary one-way traffic will also be introduced at sections of Quarry Road, Woodland Street, and Park Hill – along with a temporary prohibition of stopping at sections of Quarry Road, Quarry Cottages, Beadon Street, High Street and Woodland Street. These are described in more detail on the Council’s website.
The work will be undertaken by the RCT Streetcare Team, alongside the appointed sub-contractor Arch Services Ltd.
This third phase of work in Mountain Ash follows phase two, carried out earlier in 2025 across Stream Street, High Street and Pryce Street. Phase one took place in 2024, across Victor Street, Cliff Street, Eva Street, Stream Street and High Street.
The overall scheme is funded through Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management programme, with 15% match funding from the Council. The overall scheme represents a combined investment of more than half-a-million pounds.
