Local flood alleviation work to take place in Abercynon

Plantation Road grid - Copy

The Council will soon begin work on a Welsh Government-funded scheme to reduce the risk of flooding at Plantation Road in Abercynon.

Residents will notice site activity starting from Monday, January 27, with scheme due for completion in around two months.

Currently, during periods of heavy rainfall, water running off the mountain often spills onto the highway and poses a flood risk to nearby properties.

The works will aim to address this issue with the ordinary watercourse. It will repair and upgrade the channel upstream, enabling an unobstructed flow of water.

Upgrades to existing drainage infrastructure will also be made, along with construction of an additional culvert inlet.

The RCT Streetcare Team will deliver the work on site, alongside subcontractor Peter Simmons Construction Ltd.

The work will require temporary traffic lights at the works area of Plantation Road. All pedestrian accesses will remain available with no footways affected.

The scheme is being funded via the Welsh Government’s Small Scale Works Grant programme.

Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation.
