The Council is pleased to announce it will use grant funding to support cheaper bus travel in December 2025, once again capping the cost. Journeys over the festive period will be capped at £1.50 per journey in Rhondda Cynon Taf during the month of December.

In addition, bus travel for 5 to 21-year-olds will be capped at £1 for a single journey from September 2025 – two months before this is fully rolled out as a national Welsh Government initiative in November. These offers will use funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Investment, said: “I’m very pleased that the Council has been able to announce two important bus travel initiatives today. These will see the £1.50 bus fares reapplied over the festive period in December 2025 – as well as all under 21-year-olds essentially receiving Welsh Government’s £1 offer two months early here in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“Subsidising bus travel has many advantages – primarily tackling an economic barrier that may otherwise prevent families from accessing public transport. It also encourages more people to visit retail areas and other attractions in the County Borough and can help families with the cost-of-living pressures.”

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund, from the UK Government, has been allocated to Local Authorities to help introduce initiatives that will reduce the cost of living for residents. This will be achieved through measures that improve energy efficiency, and combat fuel poverty and climate change.
