The Council will begin work to deliver a Welsh Government-funded drainage scheme in Ystrad from next week (June 9).
The scheme off Penrhys Road will deliver a series of culvert inlet improvements, to improve resilience to flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
It will also improve access to the pictured locations, to ensure the drainage infrastructure can be maintained more easily.
No road closures will be required, although there may be some disruption to the western end of Penrhys Road during deliveries to the work site.
The footpath from Penrhys Road to the Danycoed and Danygraig residential areas will be temporarily brought out of use.
An alternative route for pedestrians will be via Danycoed, the unnamed road off Danycoed to Penrhys Road, and Penrhys Road.
Additional footway closures will be needed for some elements of the work, but a short and suitable diversion will be maintained where possible.
The RCT Streetcare Team will deliver the scheme from Monday, June 9 – lasting around nine weeks in total.
The scheme has received funding from Welsh Government’s Small Scale Works Grant – from which the Council has secured £1.69 million for a number of schemes in 2025/26.
In addition, £2.83 million is secured from the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme this financial year, along with £1.5 million from the Resilient Roads Fund.
Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation as these works are delivered in Ystrad.
