The Council has recently completed significant drainage infrastructure repairs across Mountain Ash – with the third and final phase of work now delivered.
The scheme has been funded through Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management programme, with 15% match funding from the Council. Overall, across the three phases of work, it represents a combined investment of more than half-a-million pounds.
Phase one took place in 2024 – making repairs to the drainage network across Victor Street, Cliff Street, Eva Street, Stream Street and High Street. Phase two followed earlier in 2025, focusing on repairs at Stream Street, High Street and Pryce Street.
Phase three started in August 2025 and has recently been completed in October 2025 – delivered by the RCT Streetcare Team and its sub-contractor Arch Services Ltd.
The work included replacing a section of twin pipes on the junction between Cliff Street and High Street, installing a larger singular pipe to improve the network’s capacity. Pipe re-lining also took place at High Street.
All traffic management was lifted upon completion of the works – including a road closure at Cliff Street and temporary one-way traffic arrangements across several streets.
The Council continues to work in partnership with Welsh Government to deliver flood resilience measures across local communities, with around £6 million secured for 2025/26 (which does not include Council match funding).
These have been secured across the Small Scale Works Grant, the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme, and the Resilient Roads Fund.
Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation across all three phases of work in Mountain Ash, that have increased resilience to flooding for the community.
