Survey works across Pentre to inform design of future flood alleviation scheme

Pentre FAS web

Residents in Pentre are advised that a series of survey works will be undertaken in their community over the weeks ahead, to inform the major Pentre Flood Alleviation Scheme.

Significant flood resilience measures have been delivered in Pentre over recent years, and the future Flood Alleviation Scheme will be a further multi-million pound investment in local infrastructure. It will be phased over a number of years, to further protect households and the community from the risk of flooding.

The major scheme is currently in its design phase, which is fully-funded by Welsh Government. Design work is being informed by a Section 19 report under the Flood and Water Management Act that helped understand the causes of local flooding in Storm Dennis, along with an extensive consultation exercise held with the community in summer 2023.

From Wednesday, October 29, a drone survey has been started by the Council’s appointed contractor Kestrel Surveys – and it is due to last one week.

That will be followed in the week commencing Monday, November 3, by a topographical survey and a drainage survey. These will be carried out by John Vincent Surveys and Arch Utilities respectively – and will each last around four weeks.

The works will take place throughout the area of Pentre – across multiple streets including St Stephen’s Avenue, Margaret Street, Albert Street and Baglan Street.

While overall disruption is expected to be minimal, the drainage survey will require temporary traffic lights to enable some elements of the work.

Flood alleviation continues to be an important priority for the Council, which has secured around £6 million from Welsh Government in 2025/26 to develop and deliver local schemes across the Small Scale Works Grant, the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme, and the Resilient Roads Fund.

Thanks in advance to residents in Pentre for your cooperation during the upcoming survey works.
