The Council’s modern business unit development in Robertstown continues to go from strength to strength, with all 20 units now occupied by a total of 15 local companies – illustrating the demand for the scheme in the Cynon Valley.
When completed in late 2022, the major investment brought a large area of unused land off Wellington Street back into use, using funding then available from the European Regional Development Fund. The 20 new buildings range from traditional to hybrid units, that vary in size from 1,000 to 1,700 sq ft.
The multi-million site received a good level of interest from local businesses, with the Council actively marketing the units with its consultants JLL. The first tenants moved in during 2023, including M L Crane Services Ltd, Dec-Elec Ltd, WesMec, Rheidol Electrical Services Ltd and Grey Trees Brewery – all of which have now been operating from there for around three years.
The Council is delighted to announce that all units are now occupied, with a lease taken for the final unit (Jet Rod Ltd, Unit 2) in April 2026.
The current list of tenants across the 20 units are included below:
- Unit 1 – Manup Key Ltd.
- Unit 2 – Jet Rod Ltd.
- Unit 3 – LP Construction and Maintenance Ltd.
- Unit 4 – Electrical Innovation (South Wales) Ltd.
- Units 5 and 6 – Infinite Electrical Engineering Ltd.
- Unit 7 – ML Crane Services Ltd.
- Unit 8 – Dec-Elec Ltd.
- Unit 9 – WesMec.
- Unit 10 – Simmonds Flooring.
- Unit 11 – Dec Renewables Ltd.
- Unit 12 – R&D Plasterers Ltd.
- Unit 13 – Loft Pro Cardiff Ltd.
- Units 14 and 15 – Danika Morgans.
- Unit 16 – Rheidol Electrical Services Ltd
- Units 17, 18, 19 and 20 – Grey Trees Brewery.
Councillor Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: “The Council originally designed, developed and sought funding for this development as it met a clear need for modern industrial units in the Cynon Valley – securing multi-million pound European funding available at the time. Interest has consistently remained high with businesses enquiring about operating from the site – while some tenants have now been based there for around three years, showing that the range of flexible business accommodation continues to meet local needs.
“The area remains a key employment site that greatly contributes to the local economy, with the majority of tenants being local to the Cynon Valley. I’m delighted that, in April 2026, the final of the 20 units has been occupied, which is a major milestone. I’d like to welcome our newest tenants, as well as wishing continuing success to all 15 businesses now operating from the site.”
Kate Openshaw, Associate in JLL’s Industrial & Logistics team, added: “It’s been great to work with the Local Authority as letting agent for the Robertstown scheme and we’re pleased that the estate is fully let. The consistent stream of enquiries for space here and the successful lettings demonstrate the demand for the high quality, energy efficient units that the Council have delivered.”
The Robertstown development closely followed completion of a new modern industrial unit at Parc Coed-Elái in 2021 – a 30,000 sq ft business unit with offices, delivered as a Joint Venture between the Council and Welsh Government. The project also benefitted from significant European funding.
