Opening hours and locations

All Community Recycling Centres share the same opening hours:

• October to March:  Monday to Sunday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
• April to October:  Monday to Sunday, 8:30am ti 6:30pm
• Closed during Christmas and New Year bank holidays

There are six Community Recycling Centres in Rhondda Cynon Taf:

If you are unable to take a large item to the recycling centre you can book a bulky item collection from your home.

What can and cannot be recycled at the centres

Items accepted at all centres:

• Batteries - for example household batteries
• Cables and media items - for example cables, leads, plugs, video tapes, CDs, DVDs
• Clothing - for example clothes, shoes and bags
• Construction materials - for example rubble, concrete, tiles, ceramics, plasterboard (must be clean with no other material attached)
• Electricals (emptied and clean) - for example fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, kettles, toasters, TVs, monitors, DVD players, consoles, (We do not accept commercial appliances - book a trade waste collection: 01685 870770.)
• Furniture and soft furnishings - for example sofas, wooden furniture, carpets, rugs, mattresses, pillows, duvets, textiles, soft toys
• Garden Waste - for example grass, hedge trimmings, leaves, flowers, flower root balls, sawdust, hutch animal bedding, soil, mud, branches, logs
• Glass - for example bottles, window panes
• Metals - for example drinks cans, piping, door handles, railings, metal roofing
• Mobility items - for example walking sticks, crutches, walking frames
• Oils - for example cooking and engine oil
• Paper and cardboard - for example books, cardboard, drinks cartons, paper, ink cartridges 
• Plastics - for example hard plastic, bottles, polystyrene, UPVC windows, tyres, plastic toys
• Windows and glass - for example UPVC windows, glass panels, window panes
• Wood - for example wood and doors
• Vapes - single use and re-usable

Items accepted at some centres:

• Asbestos - accepted at Aberdare. You need to book to dispose of asbestos
• Cat Litter (in a tied bag) - accepted at Aberdare, Dinas, Ferndale, Treforest and Treherbert in a tied bag
• Car batteries - accepted at Dinas, Llantrisant, Treforest and Treherbert
• Chemicals (in original containers) - accepted at Ty Amgen 
• Fluorescent tube lights - accepted at Aberdare, Dinas, Llantrisant, Treforest and Treherbert
• LPG gas cylinders (no oxy acetylene or oxygen) - accepted at Aberdare, Dinas, Ferndale, Llantrisant and Treherbert

Items not accepted at any centre:

• Black bag waste - Each household receives a three weekly household collection - Find your bin collection day
• Mixed recycling - Each household receives a weekly household collection - Find your bin collection day
• Food waste - Each household receives a weekly household collection - Request a food waste bin for weekly household collections
• Nappies - Regsiter for FREE household collections
• Incontinence waste - Regsiter for FREE household collections

Community recycling centre rules

When using the centre:

• Show proof of RCT residency - for example utility bill, driving licence, or rental agreement
• Only household items can be disposed of at the centres
• Trade waste must be disposed of at Bryn Pica Trade & Sorting Facility - Call 01685 870770 to book a disposal
• Pre‑sort all items before arriving - for example wood, plastic, metal, glass
• Staff cannot help you unload or lift items
• Respect our staff who run the centre - abuse will not be tolerated
• Follow the traffic management rules as signposted
• If queues start affecting traffic, you may be asked to return later
• During busy periods, you will not be able to join the queue 30 minutes before closing time
• Children and animals must remain in the vehicle
• Smoking is not allowed

Van and commercial vehicle rules

All vans and commercial vehicles larger than a 4x4 disposing of domestic items must call and book in advance to use the community recycling centre.

Flatbed tippers, Luton vans over 1.5 tonnes and tractors towing trailers are not allowed to dispose of waste at our centres.

To book a van disposal, you will need to provide:

• contact details
• vehicle details
• which community recycling centre you are going to
• when you are going
• what waste you are disposing of
• where the waste came from

When you arrive at the community recycling centre you need to:

• report to a member of staff
• show proof of residency (e.g. utility bill, driving licence, or rental agreement)
• complete a form
• show the contents of your van to staff

Attempting to dispose of trade or commercial waste at our Community Recycling Centres may constitute an offence under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
