School Services

Our Community Sport and Physical Activity team offer a range of support to primary schools and secondary schools in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Please see below the ways in which we can support your school to become more active, more often.

School Fund

Our School fund is designed to support schools to develop extracurricular sport and physical activity provision.  Primary schools can apply for up to £250 and secondary schools £500 per academic year.

To apply for this funding you will need to complete our school fund application form explaining your project and the impact this will have within your school. The sustainability of projects is important, please consider how they will continue once the funding has been spent. If you have Young Ambassadors we encourage you to involve them in the process, giving them an opportunity to contextualise their learning and further develop their leadership skills.

As part of the funding you will be required to complete a project completion form. This helps us to understand how the project went and whether it was successful. All schools will be contacted via email when the school fund opens for applications. For more information and dates click here.

Young Ambassador Programme

The Young Ambassador programme aims to empower and inspire young people to become ambitious and capable leaders through sport, helping to encourage their peers to be more physically active.

The expectation of every Young Ambassador is to be the young person's voice for PE and Sport in their school and community. They will work to promote the values of sport, build positive relationships and be a role model and champion for sport and physical activity within their school.

At Sport RCT we would like to work with our Young Ambassadors to increase participation opportunities within their schools and local communities, aiming to get every child hooked on sport for life. We support this by providing our Young Ambassadors with leadership training, networking opportunities with ambassadors from other schools and resources through our various funding opportunities. School Holiday Challenges

Throughout the year we release a number of free themed activity challenges to encourage pupils and their families to be active through the school holidays. These consist of a list of basic activities related to the specific theme. So whether you’re visiting your local leisure centre or exploring your local park, our challenges will get pupils out and active during their time off. Completed challenges can be sent in on social media for the chance to win prizes.

Active Homework

Our Active Homework books are designed as a fun way to help you encourage your students to be active outside of school, they are available in a digital and physical format. We have a number of predesigned certificates you can award to your class along with a template for you to make up your own awards. If you are interested in trying our Active Homework booklets in your school, please contact us at sportrct@rctcbc.gov.uk.

School Sport Survey

The School Sport Survey uses the pupil voice to provide an invaluable level of insight that can be used to positively influence every child's health and wellbeing. By completing the survey you will have access to a range of data specific to your school around the activity levels and interests of your pupils. This will allow you to identify areas of strength and target areas in which you can have the greatest impact on the physical activity levels of your pupils. When Sport Wales release the next survey our team can support you to complete it and develop projects based on your report.

Movement Matters

Movement Matters is a resource designed by Sport RCT to get more children active across Rhondda Cynon Taf and support the development of physical literacy.
