Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Heat and Save Team has been awarded £10,000 from Western Power Distribution’s Community Matters Fund to provide extra assistance to communities in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
The money will allow the Council to provide additional insulation measures, as well as addressing other issues that affect the safety and comfort of residents, such as damp proofing and improving external doors. Along with these energy efficiency measures the funding will allow for staff training in order to improve the support the Council offers Rhondda Cynon Taf residents regarding energy efficiency advice.
The funding will allow the Council to assist a further 20 residents alongside the current grants. The initial focus for this funding will be residents in the Penrhiwceiber and Ynysyboeth area, however any residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf are able and encouraged to apply for assistance. The allocation of the funding will depend on a resident’s personal circumstances, with grants being awarded on a discretionary basis.
Councillor Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development & Housing said:
“Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is pleased to have been successful with a bid from Western Power Distribution’s Community Matters Fund to increase the grants and assistance available for vulnerable residents in the County Borough that are in, or at risk of, fuel poverty. The funding will also help in improving the health and safety of residents living in cold homes.
“The project will address gaps in current financial assistance for energy measures that are needed by households in fuel poverty, along with helping to increase energy awareness amongst residents.”
