Amber weather warnings in place this weekend

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for this weekend due to expected wintery conditions – including for showery rain, sleet and snow starting from 12.00, mid-day Saturday 4th January until 23.59 Sunday 5th January.

The current weather warnings include:

  • An amber warning for heavy snow, and some freezing rain in places - leading to a risk of ice (18.00pm Saturday 4th January, to 12.00pm on Sunday, 5th January).
  • A yellow warning for heavy snow, and some freezing rain in places - leading to a risk of ice (12.00pm Saturday 4th January, to 23.59pm on Sunday, 5th January).

The weather conditions will be closely monitored and the Council’s Highways and Streetcare crews will be treating the main County Borough network, high routes and car parks in preparation for any inclement weather.

Crews have also checked Grit Bin supplies in advance at locations across the County Borough and restocked if needed. Additional staff resources are also available to take proactive actions and respond to any issues, should they arise.

Motorists undertaking essential journeys are advised to take extra care and drive according to the winter conditions.

The Council is advising residents to remain alert and to take extra care at this time. Also, please follow the Met Office and the Council’s social media accounts for all the latest updates.
