Section of the Taff Trail to be closed for key works

Taff Trail grid web

Residents are advised that a section of the Taff Trail between Trallwn and Cilfynydd will be closed for emergency works during the weeks ahead, for important activity to rectify storm damage.

Welsh Government funding has been secured to deliver the works from next week. Site setup will start on Monday, October 27, with the closure beginning from Friday, October 31.

The Taff Trail will close from Ty Isaf railway bridge (near Fletchers Field allotment), heading northwards to a point to the west of Ysgol Bro Taf (near Cilfynydd Recreation Ground and Albion Industrial Estate) – around 1.5km in total.

The scheme will include diverting a section of the path away from the river to increase resilience to future storm events, and rebuilding two small footbridges over a length of 100-metres.

There will also be work to protect the embankment, while trees that are considered to cause a danger will be removed.

An alternative route for pedestrians and cyclists will be signposted to use the existing highway network, via Coedpenmaen Road, Doddington Place, Merthyr Road, Pontshonnorton Road, Cilfynydd Road and Albion Industrial Estate.

The Council has appointed Edwards Diving Services as the contractor to deliver the work, which is expected to be completed by the late winter.

The contractor will use a temporary bridge spanning the Ty Isaf Railway Bridge to access the site, as a necessary measure to complete the works.

The scheme is funded through Welsh Government’s Active Travel Grant for 2025/26, delivered with match-funding by the Council.

Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation.
