Residents and road users are advised that overnight work will take place from Tuesday (September 23), to undertake inspection and testing work to the Royal Oak Bridge in Abercynon.
The bridge carries Goitre-Coed Road over the A4059, at a point just west of Abercynon Roundabout.
A planned repair and maintenance scheme to the structure took place earlier this year, and will now be followed by inspection activity over the next two weeks.
Firstly, from September 23-25 (Tues-Thurs), overnight work will inspect the bridge and undertake concrete testing – starting at 8pm and ending by 5am the following morning.
This will be carried out at night to minimise disruption, with lane closures and two-way traffic lights required on the A4059, near Abercynon Roundabout, pictured left.
This element of the scheme may be unavoidably noisy due to required drilling work, but it will be carried out while minimising disruption as far as possible.
Secondly, from September 29-30 (Mon-Tues), day-time work will take place at Goitre-Coed Road for similar inspections and concrete testing – from 8am to 5pm each day.
Traffic management will be set up on the road, pictured right, with a lane closure and two-way traffic lights required to access the internal chambers of the bridge.
Minimal disruption is expected for this element of the scheme, with this section of road having a relatively low traffic use.
Residents who live near the Royal Oak Bridge will receive a letter to introduce and explain the works.
The site activity will be undertaken by Council consultants WSP and its subcontractors – and is funded by the ongoing Highways and Transportation Capital Programme.
Thanks to road users and local communities in advance for your cooperation.
