Important drainage improvements will soon begin at A4058 Cymmer Road at Dinas – with the first works taking place off the highway. Required works within the road will take place in March, using traffic management over the weekends and outside of the busier travel periods.
The Council has secured Welsh Government funding for this Resilient Roads scheme, to tackle the known issue of surface water accumulating during periods of heavy rainfall.
The work will get underway from Saturday, February 7, at the pictured location near the Council’s Community Recycling Centre and depot.
Site surveys and investigations were carried out in 2025, which included significant drain cleaning that was completed over the summer of 2025.
Work being carried out by the RCT Streetcare team will upgrade the existing highway drainage network
From February 7, initial work will take place to the Council’s depot access ramp, using weekend day-time shifts to minimise disruption. Access to the depot will be maintained.
From February 16, works will take place within the depot grounds. All usual accesses will be maintained and there will be no disruption to the A4058.
Then during March, work on A4058 Cymmer Road will take place under two-way traffic lights, planned for Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.
In total, the Council has secured more than £6 million from Welsh Government for flood alleviation work in 2025/26, across the Small Scale Works Grant, the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme, and the Resilient Roads Fund. The Council has provided 10% match funding for this upcoming scheme in Dinas.
Thanks to residents and road users in advance for your cooperation.
