Festive Swim Was A Cracker!

Around 250 people took to the water on Boxing Day to enjoy the Festive Swim at Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales.

Despite the poor weather conditions everyone had a ‘splashing’ time in the heated pool as they made the most of the Christmas holidays with their families and friends.

As part of the Council’s event, each swimmer was given a complimentary hot drinks and a Christmas cookie at its Waterside Cafe, making it a truly unforgettable experience at Rhondda Cynon Taf’s premier outdoor water attraction.

The Boxing Day Swim follows the great success of the Swim and See Santa event held at Lido Ponty earlier in the month, bringing the total number of visitors to the National Lido of Wales to around 1,000 in December alone.

Among those who visited Lido Ponty on Boxing Day was Brad Grant, from Australia, who was on holidays in the area at the time. “I had a fantastic time at the National Lido of Wales,” he said.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for the Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “Our opening year at Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, has been overwhelming. We continue to receive lots of amazing feedback from the public.

“We have welcomed thousands of visitors to Lido Ponty since its official opening on August 24 and look forward to the launch of the new season in 2016.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Lido Ponty visitors a very happy and healthy new year.”

The Oriel Family, from Blackwood, also visited Lido Ponty on Boxing Day. They said: “We absolutely loved it. It was brilliant fun.”
