Hundreds of people enjoyed the brand new Lido Play adventure playground when it opened this weekend and the good news is it is now permanently open (in line with the opening hours of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park).
Following a busy week to complete the feature, which forms part of the wider £6.3m Lido Pontypridd attraction, contractors have confirmed the colourful new playground is now ready for the public to enjoy.
There are still a few finishing touches to add to the beautiful playground, including landscaping. Additional seating and picnic benches are also planned for the playground, but the Council wants to spend time looking at how people naturally use the park and where they gather, so seating and picnic benches can be installed in the perfect locations.
Lido Play is packed with swings, slides and fun activities. There is a sandpit with a digger and towers from which you can build sand creations, as well as a rope slide, play train, climbing frames, roundabout and even musical tubes.
The park also has a bespoke swing for wheelchairs and the roundabout is also wheelchair accessible.
The entire park has been thoughtfully designed to appeal to imagination and innovation, with bright, colourful features and landscaping. It allows children to play on the equipment but also to make up their own games on the hills, the features and the sandpit.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Sport Cllr Ann Crimmings said: “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the new Lido Play feature this weekend and we have had so much positive feedback.
“The opening of Lido Play is a milestone in the wider Lido Pontypridd scheme, which remains on course to fully open in August.
“We know people have been really looking forward to the new children’s adventure playground, particularly as it is such a lovely place to go during the school summer holidays, which is why we have worked so hard in recent weeks to get it open as soon as possible.
“Overlooking the playground, is the stunning Lido Pontypridd, which is set to open in August and offers three outdoor heated pools, as well as a visitor centre, sun terrace, cafe and function facility.”
Lido Play’s opening hours will be the same as Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, which is currently open from 8.30am to 9pm until the end of August on weekends and 7.30am to 9pm on weekdays. You can find the park’s year-round opening hours at www.rctcbc.gov.uk
Lido Pontypridd is a £6.3m restoration and regeneration of the historic Lido which has stood in the heart of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park since 1927.
Many of the unique Mediterranean-style features of the Lido have been maintained in the modern new development, which has been led by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, with funding for Lido Pontypridd and Lido Play from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, Cadw and Heritage Lottery Fund.
