Overnight, our crews have been out and about in what has been a very windy and busy night.
At least 40 trees have come down in the wind onto highways or damaging structures, and crews are working to remove these in a number of places throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf. There is also a large amount of debris is spread across the highway network.
With an AMBER warning for WIND in place until 21:00 today, falling trees and debris are likely to continue throughout the day, causing ongoing issues and posing a significant danger to people travelling.
People are being urged to avoid all non-essential travel today. Driving conditions are extremely hazardous, with falling trees, high winds, and possible surface flooding all posing a danger to vehicles. If you do not need to travel, then please do not.
We have not had any reports of flooding to properties overnight. However, heavy and persistent rain will continue throughout this morning and into this afternoon, with an AMBER warning for RAIN in force until 18:00. We urge anyone with flood defences to check their equipment and install as required or be ready to deploy if needed at short notice.
Crews have also been clearing culverts overnight which had built up with debris throughout the evening. There was no immediate risk to properties, however, with continuing rain it is important these are cleared quickly.
